Jodie Steel

DipVN (MHFA)

Surgical RVN & Clinical Supervisor

Before starting her veterinary nursing career, Jodie studied Animal Management, Behaviour and Welfare at Hull and then Chester university. She graduated in 2017 achieving a 1st class Honours degree along with academic recognition from her lecturers.

In her first year at university she began working at Cuan Wildlife Rescue, one of the largest wildlife casualty centres in the UK. She progressed to a senior role and discovered her interest in medicine and nursing. This led her to her next role as a mobile patient care assistant at a large veterinary group, travelling to various practices across the West Midlands area, and then to a busy 24 hour hospital in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Here she learnt a vast array of skills, taking particular interest in ECC, schedule 3 procedures, hydrotherapy, microscopy and cytology, anaesthesia, and diagnostic imaging.

Jodie qualified in July 2022 and joined VSS in the September as a surgical nurse. Having been at VSS for a while now, Jodie has developed a vast array of advanced surgical nursing skills. Being passionate about educating and training others, Jodie is also a clinical supervisor for our student nurses, and gains great satisfaction out of developing and teaching more advanced skills to our nursing team. Jodie is also one of our qualified Mental Health First Aiders, providing support across the team, whilst also ensuring our Dog Friendly Clinic status and protocols are adhered to in order to make your dog’s experience with us stress-free.
