If the thought of helping to develop the Anaesthesia Service in a friendly state-of-the-art hospital that aims for excellence in patient and people care appeals to you, then we would like to hear from you.

The hospital

Veterinary Specialists Scotland is located close to Edinburgh, but also has easy access to Glasgow, countryside, mountains and magnificent coastline. Edinburgh is a beautiful and vibrant city, famous for its festival and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Whether you are a fan of city life or like getting out to the hills, then VSS may be the place for you.

The premises have been specifically architect designed with lots of natural light and currently comprise:

  • Six light and airy consulting rooms, including a dedicated feline consulting room
  • Five wards – canine medical, canine surgical, feline, Intensive Care Unit and Isolation
  • Endoscopy suite
  • Extensive in-house lab facilities
  • Ultrasound room
  • CT scanner, digital radiography, fluoroscopy and visiting MRI
  • Two theatre suites
  • Two anaesthesia dedicated induction rooms with wall mounted anaesthetic machines
  • Aestiva anaesthetic machines in both theatres, CT and endoscopy
  • Nerve stimulator and portable ultrasound machine for ultrasound guided nerve blocks.

And that is just the ground floor! We have another two floors to expand into...

The Team

We are a vibrant, friendly and collaborative team, who all work together to provide outstanding patient and client care. We currently take referrals in feline and canine medicine, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics and neurology, supported by a team of Specialist Anaesthetists and Diagnostic Imagers. Our team of interns ensure hospitalised patients receive care out-of-hours, although we are always available to support them.

Our expanding nursing team has a wealth of experience in referral practice and supports our vision of providing excellence in patient care. In turn, the nurses are assisted by the veterinary care assistants and we also have a strong client care team to deal with administrative aspects.

As part of the Linnaeus Group we also have access to support from a wide number of referral hospitals.

The Position

We are looking for a personable clinician with enthusiasm to develop the service. Diploma holders, candidates who have completed a residency and those with several years of experience of referral anaesthesia will all be considered. Participation in a shared 1 in 4 out of hours on-call rota is expected.

We offer:

  • 28 days holiday per year in addition to 8 public holidays
  • Professional membership subscriptions
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Time off for CPD
  • Pension scheme
  • Private health care scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Rewards bonus for recruiting further members of staff.
