Mariana Almeida
DVM, MSc, GPCert(SAS), MRCVS and Post-residency Clinician in Small Animal Surgery (soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery).
Mariana graduated from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal, in 2015. She worked in her home country for five years before relocating to the UK in May 2020 to pursue her dream of specialised training in Small Animal Surgery.
She completed a one-year rotating internship followed by a one-year surgical internship in a busy referral hospital in Hampshire. She then worked in first-opinion practice for six months while completing her General Practitioner Certificate (GPCert) in Small Animal Surgery.
Mariana subsequently returned to the same referral centre in Hampshire to undertake a three-year ECVS-accredited residency in Small Animal Surgery. Upon completion of her residency, she moved to Scotland to join the Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic teams at Veterinary Specialists Scotland.
Mariana enjoys all aspects of Small Animal Surgery, from soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures to spinal surgery.
Outside of work, she can often be found studying for her specialist board examination, discovering Scotland, spending time in nature, or travelling back to Portugal to visit her family and friends.
