Returning to the Dick Vet in 1999 to undertake a residency in small animal surgery, John was awarded his European College Diploma in 2003. He remained at the University Hospital for Small Animals, initially as a Lecturer and latterly as Senior Lecturer. John was head of the small animal surgery team at The University of Edinburgh for 15 years, until leaving to join the VSS team in 2019. John is interested in all aspects of canine and feline orthopaedic disease, and has a particular interest in the management of complex fractures. Outside of work, John breeds and shows pedigree Hebridean sheep, and shares the sofa with two Labradors who are useless at herding sheep.
