American, European and RCVS recognised Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care

After graduating from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover (Germany), Tobias spent three years in a mixed animal practice and a small animal clinic before working as an emergency vet in central London. He worked as a senior emergency vet in Stoke-on-Trent, Edinburgh and Glasgow before he completed a residency in emergency and critical care at Glasgow University Veterinary School before he became board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2013. Tobias then achieved Diplomate status within The European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2014 and became a RCVS recognised Specialist in 2015.

Tobias has lectured worldwide at numerous veterinary meetings, including the largest International Emergency Symposium (IVECCS, USA), the largest European Veterinary Congress (BSAVA, UK), taught emergency and critical care medicine at the University of Beijing, China, was chairman of the British Association of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (BAVECC) for several years, was nominated multiple times for the ‘Pet Plan Vet of the year’ award and won the ‘Vets Now Referral Clinician of the year’ award in 2013.

He joined Veterinary Specialists Scotland in January 2023 to lead the newly established Emergency and Critical Care service. He has an interest in all aspects of emergency and critical care work, but especially in the smooth integration of emergency care within a referral setting whilst offering a freely available emergency service to referring practices.

Outside work he is trying not to get injured while learning new ‘football skills’ with his son Lukas, is looking after various animals on a smallholding together with his wife, Jane, and tries to spend as much time as possible outside either fishing or photographing the beauty of nature.
